Sad news today in the Canadian music world; Jay Smith, guitarist for Matt Mays, passed away this morning in Edmonton.  The band was nearing the end of a cross Canada tour and had only two more dates before hitting the road in the US with The Gaslight Anthem.  A message on Matt Mays’ Facebook page stated that the band will carry on and all proceeds from the remaining shows will go to his children.

Thankfully, I got to see Jay play with Matt Mays this past weekend in Hamilton (review to follow shortly).

Jay was a very talented guitarist and songwriter.  He released a self-titled solo album in 2011.
